Polybutylene is the one to know about in this region. If your Tri-Cities home went up between roughly 1978 and 1995, there is a fair chance the supply lines are grey poly-B with acetal fittings — a system with a well-documented tendency to fail at the fitting, without warning, behind a wall. Replacing it on a planned schedule costs a fraction of replacing it plus the drywall, flooring, and insurance deductible afterwards.

How long does a water heater replacement take?
A straightforward like-for-like tank swap is usually three to four hours including draining the old unit, hauling it away, and testing. Converting to tankless is a bigger job — gas line sizing, venting, and often an electrical circuit — and typically takes a day.
Should I repipe the whole house or just fix the leak?
It depends on what the pipe is. A single pinhole in otherwise sound copper is a spot repair. A poly-B fitting failure is a warning — the rest of the system is the same age and the same material. We'll show you what we found and let you decide, with a price for each option.
Do I need a permit?
For a like-for-like fixture swap, generally no. For altering or extending pipe, moving a fixture, or replacing a water heater in most cases, yes — and we pull it. Permitted work gets inspected, which is protection for you when you sell.
